FSM, or Frequency Specific Microcurrent, is an electromedical method that differs fundamentally from other methods such as TENS,
which only temporarily blocks the nerves transporting the pain signals.
FSM applies only about a thousandth of the current used in TENS; the current is below the perception threshold and similar in strength to that produced by the body itself in each cell and in every tissue.
By applying appropriate (or specific) frequencies, the cell receptors are activated to resume their natural function in order to support intracellular processes, metabolic processes,
gene expression and the protein configuration of the cell.
FSM is used to treat -
¨ Pain and Trauma of Bones, Muscles and Joints
¨ Wound healing
¨ Scar tissue
¨ Sports Injuries
¨ Anti-ageing skin treatments
Patients with implanted metals pins, metal plates, artificial joints and stents have been treated with no problems reported.
If it is unproblematic for the metal to be in the normal body current, then it is equally unproblematic for it to be in microcurrent.
We cannot treat someone with a Pacemaker,
Or anyone fitted with an electronic pump
e.g Insulin pump,
Or who is Epileptic or Pregnant.
The leads from the machine will attach to a small hand
towel or wash cloths that have been soaked in warm water.
The wet fabric becomes a long flexible conductive surface or electrode and can wrap around the neck or lower back, lay along the length of the spine,
wrap around a knee, ankle, elbow or wrist and or foot.
We have 120 protocols available for immediate use.
We can also customise and create protocols specifically for you.
How to prepare for your treatment
You must be hydrated to benefit from the microcurrent treatment.
Hydrated means 2-4 8oz glasses of water before your
Coffee, caffeinated tea, carbonated cola beverages do not count as water.
The wet towels we use have to remain in contact with the skin.
We try our best to keep your clothes dry,
but it may be better if you bring spare clothes to change into afterwards, depending on your treatment protocol.
Time per treatment
Most treatment protocols are a minimum of 1 hour.
Multiple appointments may be required to treat certain conditions,
this will be discussed at the time of booking your first appointment.
Please feel free to bring a book to read,
or just listen to the radio and have a snooze...
whatever works best to help you relax.
TimeWaver has more than 10 years of experience with its medical technology systems in the treatment of a variety of conditions.
Together with Dr McMakin, TimeWaver has developed the Frequency McMakin system, which offers more than 120 automated FSM therapy protocols for the treatment of numerous injuries and conditions.
The additional individual setting of various other program parameters is possible with the system.
The TimeWaver Frequency McMakin system is both device and method,
but it is also an overall concept for clinics and practices. Thanks to its universal mechanisms of action, it is suitable for almost all medical fields.
The frequencies were developed in the early 1900’s and were used with funky looking electronic equipment that fell out of use in the 1940’s.
Microcurrent was introduced as a battery operated physical therapy modality in the 1980’s in Europe and the USA.
Microcurrent devices deliver frequencies and current in millionths of an amp and have been shown in published studies to increase energy (ATP) production in cells by 500%.
Since 1997, hundreds of practitioners around the world use this amazing new technique to help patients recover from myofascial pain, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, concussion and many other health concerns.

Dr McMakin had become thoroughly acquainted with the world of medicine during her 16 years as a pharmaceutical representative.
She then changed her path in life, studying to become a chiropractor and opening her own practice in due course.
While setting up her practice, she bought a microcurrent therapy device dating from 1922, an era when non-pharmaceutical therapies were not yet as strictly regulated in the United States.
However, the real “treasure” of this almost 100-year-old acquisition lay in an enclosed comprehensive list of frequencies and their effects that
came with the hardware.
Based on this list, Dr McMakin began treating patients with dual-channel frequency therapy, quickly gaining valuable experience with this technique.
The success was overwhelming: through word of mouth from successfully treated patients, and because some surgeons started referring particularly difficult patients to her for post-operative treatment.
She started to perform comprehensive teaching and training activities for other therapists and founded her own pain clinic in Portland, Oregon.
Dr McMakin is the leading authority and developer of
Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM).
She maintains a part-time clinical practice, participates in research and teaches seminars on the use of FSM in the United States, Australia, Ireland and Europe.
She has lectured at the National Institutes of Health and at numerous conferences in the US, England, Canada and Australia on the subjects of fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes.
